Whelan hired as PRSD’s Literacy Program Co-ordinator

Peace River School Division his hired Jessica Whelan as the Divisional K-12 Literacy Program Coordinator effective Feb. 1.

Whelan has 12 years of teaching experience in elementary education. She has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and is currently enrolled in the PRSD Master’s in Educational Leadership Cohort with the University of Alberta.

Whelan has taught Grades 1, 2, and 4 at E. E. Oliver School in Fairview, AB and previously was a colony K-9 teacher at the Codesa Colony School in the Peace Wapiti School Division.

She has taken on several leadership roles at E.E. Oliver including being the lead numeracy teacher for their K-3 PLC.

She has also organized and managed school-wide Response To Intervention Tier 2 intervention groups and was an active member of the Reading Assessment Committee during the 2015-16 school year.

Currently, she is honing her skills as an educational leader through her work in the PRSD Master’s in Educational Leadership cohort.

Whelan is passionate about why she entered the education field; she is dedicated to supporting children in their journey to become literate.
