Wabasca/Desmarais RCMP investigate two deceased people

Wabasca, Alberta – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police can now confirm that a 44-year-old woman and a 52-year-old-man, both of whom had been found deceased in a residence in Wabasca, on the afternoon of Friday, September 23, died as a result of murder-suicide.

Autopsies were conducted Monday by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Edmonton. Both individuals had sustained gunshot wounds and the woman’s death was determined to be a murder through evidence obtained from the autopsy and the police investigation.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit (MCU) along with the Peace River Forensic Identification Section in conjunction with the Wabasca/Desmarais RCMP Detachment has completed their investigation into this matter. The RCMP will not be releasing further information about the case or the names of the deceased.

Police are not seeking any additional suspects in this case and can confirm that there is not any related risk to public safety.
