Val Topwich is back overseeing the Smoky River Gymnastics Club for the 2016/17 season.

She is pleased to return and notes the growth of the club.

“I’m glad to be back,” says Topwich. “We have a really good coaching staff and the size of the club has increased over the last couple of years.”

But she hopes to eventually turn the role of head coach over to Andria Topwich, who is being groomed for the role.

Besides Andria Topwich, the other coaching staff members are Shanele Morin, Chantal Laflamme and Sam Russett. Michele Bessette is the new president of the Smoky River Gymnastics Club.

Fifty-eight children are enrolled for the following categories:

. Tiny Tots.
. Boys.
. Beginners.
. Intermediate.
. Advanced.
. Levels 1A and 1B.

Val Topwich says the skill level of the older children has improved over the last two years.

Lessons are held in the main gym at Ecole Routhier on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the club has new floor mats.

The season started in September and goes until early December. Following Christmas, the program will resume in January and finish in early March.

An achievement day will be held at Ecole Routhier on Feb. 25 and a fun meet will be held there on March 11, to finish the season.
