Mayor Donna Buchinski
Town of Falher
2017 was another year that we were able to hold the line on taxes without the loss of any services. We saw completions, additions, beginnings, and the laying of the foundation that will hopefully see good economic growth for 2018.
Phase 1 of the residential subdivision, Honey Vista Estates was completed with 9 single family dwelling lots and four multi-family lots.
The FABuLAS ladies have again proven tireless in their vision for the Honey Capital Park with the addition of a Toddler area added in September, and a swing and climbing structure to be completed in the spring.
Council fully supports and cheers these women; it is great to see kids take so much pleasure in the park once again.
The Town of Falher continues to look at opportunities to collaborate with the Smoky River Region municipalities. Headed by Economic Development the region supported the Development of a Business Plan for a proposed Canola Crushing Plant for the Smoky River area.
The automated garbage deposal system was implemented regionally by the Smoky River Waste Commission and has been successful; garbage is contained in the bins eliminating the previous problems with the birds.
The Town took advantage of the Alberta Government’s Carbon Tax rebate program to complete the retrofitting of the light fixtures to LED for the Recreation Complex, Town Office, Public Works Shop and the Library.
Elections were held in October and while the voter turnout was low, it was great to see the election process. Thank you, to all the town residents who came out to vote.
I also want to acknowledge and thank the past council members for their service to the town, and to congratulate and welcome the new town council.
In the New Year, Council will have a Strategic Planning Session; this will help council to review current operations and future projects.
Highlights for 2018 will be the re-surfacing of Main Street and sidewalk replacement.
In 2019 the Town of Falher will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
This is an opportunity for residents to be involved and participate in the decisions for the celebration. Please contact the Town office for information on the committee.
