The main gym at Ecole Routhier was a very busy place on March 3, as the Smoky River Gymnastics Club hosted the Fairview Gymnastics Club, North Peace Gymnastics Club of Peace River and the Sexsmith Gymnastics Club for achievement day.

In all, 70 gymnasts participated.

“It’s a good chance for our kids to get to know other kids,” says Michelle Bessette, president of the Smoky River Gymnastics Club.

The event had an 80’s theme, with some gymnasts dressing the part.

The gymnasts were divided into groups and they rotated through each station – the mat, the balance beam, uneven bars, parallel bars, spring board, pommel horse and rings.

Near the end of the event, they played several games, including switcheroo, which is similar to musical chairs.

Then Val Towpich, the head coach for the Smoky River Gymnastics Club, presented certificates of achievement to each of the gymnasts, with the boys receiving theirs first.

The Smoky River Gymnastics Club will hold a fun meet at Ecole Routhier on March 17.
