The annual Springtime Strawberry Tea fundraiser put on by the Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (NHLA) of Manoir du Lac was held from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday May 6.
With a slightly lower attendance than on previous occasions, there was still an excellent turnout and all aspects of the event, admission, raffle, 50/50 and bake sale contributing to the event’s overall success, raising in excess of $1000 for Manoir du Lac.
The money raised through the NHLA contributes to the purchase of equipment when needed and provides funds to give residents gifts on special occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, Valentine’s Day and Easter.
NHLA also provides the Manoir du Lac recreation coordinator funds to ensure she has resources to cover incidentals over the summer.
The NHLA also sponsors bingo every second and fourth Thursday and on fifth Thursday if there are five in the month. The Golden Age Club does the first Thursday and Royal Purple sponsor bingo on third Monday.
Family members of Manoir du Lac residents, members of the NHLA and Manoir du Lac staff provided items for the Spring Strawberry Tea bake sale while others left a donation.
Irene Brassard won first prize in the Strawberry Tea raffle, Halios Dion second prize and Sandy Thrall third prize. Angie Goudreau won the fifty/fifty draw.
“We didn’t have as many people attend as we previously had but there was the Knights of Columbus pancake brunch at the church and I can’t see too many people wanting strawberry shortcake right after pancakes and syrup,” says organizer Pat Penner. “But everyone was having a good time and we are really pleased that local merchants support us and we hope the community supports them also.”
The NHLA would like to encourage women in the community to join the Ladies Auxiliary. The organization meets for a couple of hours in the afternoon once a month, which is not a huge commitment of one’s time.
If anyone is interested in inquiring about joining the Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary they can call Pat Penner at 780-324-3746.
