It was the last tournament of the season for the Smoky River Seed, as they hosted four other midget-level teams during the weekend of March 11-13.
Although the outcome wasn’t what he hoped for, coach Rey Fontaine is proud of the team for their efforts, as well as the opportunity to host the tournament.
“It was a good turnout,” says Fontaine.
“We brought in three contact teams. It was a showcase weekend for us, to show the competitiveness of the non-contact league.”
The Smoky River Seed midget-level team had only nine players during the season and had to resort to using some bantam-level players on occasion.
Here are the results of the round robin games for the local team:
1. Smoky River Seed 7, Grimshaw Huskies 4.
2. Smoky River Seed, 4, Grande Prairie Knights, 1.
3. Smoky River Seed 3 Peace River Mustangs, 3.
4. Smoky River Seed 6, Fort St. John Flyers, 1.
