The Smoky River Seed midget team played against the Grande Prairie Knights in round robin action on March 12, and the local team won the game 4-1.

It was the last tournament of the season for the Smoky River Seed, as they hosted four other midget-level teams during the weekend of March 11-13.
Although the outcome wasn’t what he hoped for, coach Rey Fontaine is proud of the team for their efforts, as well as the opportunity to host the tournament.
“It was a good turnout,” says Fontaine.
“We brought in three contact teams. It was a showcase weekend for us, to show the competitiveness of the non-contact league.”
The Smoky River Seed midget-level team had only nine players during the season and had to resort to using some bantam-level players on occasion.
Here are the results of the round robin games for the local team:
1. Smoky River Seed 7, Grimshaw Huskies 4.
2. Smoky River Seed, 4, Grande Prairie Knights, 1.
3. Smoky River Seed 3 Peace River Mustangs, 3.
4. Smoky River Seed 6, Fort St. John Flyers, 1.
All the round robin games consisted of two 35-minute periods.
The Smoky River Seed and the Peace River Mustangs played in the championship game in the afternoon of March 13. That game consisted of three regular 20-minute periods.
The Peace River Mustangs won the game by a score of 7-4. They received a stereo system to take home as their prize.
In the spirit of good sportsmanship, the teams shook hands at the end of each game. Most Valuable Player awards were handed out to each team at the end of all games as well.
