Georges P. Vanier and Ecole Heritage co-hosted a senior badminton invitational on April 23. Says Melodie Schaefer, the senior badminton coach for GPV:
“It went really well,” she says. “Nicole Walisser did a great job of organizing it. It went as smoothly as any tournament could.”
Principal Nicole Walisser of Ecole Heritage also offered her thoughts:
“There was some very exciting and hard-fought matches played at the tournament on the weekend,” says Walisser. “Many of the athletes are hopefuls for provincials, they played with great intensity and excellent sportsmanship.”
Twelve schools participated in the tournament: E.W. Pratt, High Prairie; Hillside School, Valleyview; GPV, Donnelly; Héritage, Falher; Charles Spencer, Grande Prairie; Grande Prairie Composite High School; Grimshaw High School; Peace River High School; Glenmary, Peace River; Ridgevalley School; St. Andrew’s School, High Prairie; and Beaverlodge Regional High School.

Intermediate
Girls Singles: Gold Kayla Guérette (Héritage); Silver Hailey Turcotte (GPV). Boys Singles: Gold Simon Jean (Héritage).
Senior
Girls Singles: Jessica Gosselin (Héritage); Boys Singles: Gold Alexei Walisser (Héritage); Silver, David Therriault (Héritage).
Intermediate/Senior Girls Doubles: golds went to Danika Dion and Brianne Laverdière (Héritage). Silver, Jutarat Noorsi & Edin MacInnis (GPV); bronze, Makayla Bouvier and Kristen Tardif (GPV). Boys Doubles: silver, Tarren Dion and Skyler Guérette (Héritage).
