This year, Seniors Week took place between June 3 to June 9 with the first Seniors Tea event happening at Manoir du Lac in McLennan on Monday June 4 followed each day with events at Club des Pionniers in Donnelly, Villa Beausejour Falher with the final Seniors Tea taking place at Club Etoile in Girouxville.
Smoky River FCSS, the Town of McLennan, the Village of Donnelly, the Town of Falher and the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 sponsored the Special Seniors’ Tea events in four municipalities to celebrate Seniors Week, which takes place annually in the first full week in June.
Each celebration lasted approximately an hour at which cake and ice cream were served and local musicians Nellie Montpellier, Gerry Stout, Hubert Girard, Gerry Maure and Gerry and Marie Dubois played at the various venues.
An ensemble of seven musicians played at Villa Beausejour, where residents and staff got up dancing before the cake and ice cream were served.
At all four venues, local mayors, members of council and CAOs attended the various celebrations, including Michele Fournier, Donna Buchinski, Myrna Lanctot, Carmen Ewing, Ernest Johnson, Kelly Elliot, Adele Parker and Estelle Girard.
FCSS Director Lynn Florence and staff member Diane Servant also attended the events.
Keeping with tradition, the eldest senior at each event cut the cake, except at Villa Beausejour where the tea coincided with some birthdays.
Those who did the cutting in McLennan, Donnelly and Girouxville were respectively, Pauline Gervais who is 90, Gertrude Benoit who is 93 and Marvin Brulotte 85.
Villa Beausejour celebration coincided with a number of birthdays so a special table was setup so a number of residents shared in the honour of cutting the cake.
