The main gym at Ecole Routhier is once again the scene for somersaults, balance beam performances, the uneven bars and other gymnastics training.
The Smoky River Gymnastics Club has begun the 2017/18 season with 80 children enrolled. Head coach Val Towpich offers her thoughts about what’s ahead for the club.
“The bulk of the kids are in the beginner and intermediate classes,” she says.
“It is a finely tuned organization and we have many new gymnasts from the Eaglesham/Tangent and Smoky River areas. Our boys’ group has increased over last year, and our Level 1 group of girls are a really strong group.”
Besides Towpich, the other coaches are Assistant Coach Andria Towpich, Level 1; and Junior Coach Shanele Morin, Level 1.
However, the club is down by two coaches over last season and there is a waiting list for enrolment.
The club has purchased some new equipment. But sponsorship is required for the club jackets. Anyone interested in sponsoring the club should call (780) 837-6560.
The club will host an achievement day on March 3, 2018, and the fun meet is scheduled for March 17, 2018.
