Another successful Smoky River FCSS Summer Youth Program comes to an end.
For the summer of 2016 there were many youth throughout our region and surrounding areas that joined us this summer for weeks of fun esteem building activities, crafts, games and tours. The Smoky River Region is very fortunate to have a municipally subsidised community transportation program as well as our drivers who are dedicated to provide transportation in order to make our tours and activities affordable and possible.
Every Tuesday we spent the afternoon at the Falher pool which the kids always looked forward to. We also spent the day at Winagami Lake every Thursday where we enjoyed lunch on the campfire, swimming at the wading pool as well as playing at the park and at the beach. Throughout the weeks this summer, we also had many other activities planned such as wacky science Wednesday, where the kids got to take part in hands- on science experiments every Wednesday. These are simply a few of the many exciting activities that took place this summer.
This year we saw a substantial increase in the number of registrations! Three of the seven weekly camps were full to capacity of 15 youth taking part. Another program that we offer is the horse program which took place August 19th, again this day was full to capacity with 10 participants. We spent the day at EC Bar Ranch near High Prairie where we enjoyed a trail ride, corn maze, lunch on the campfire, crafts and a slip and slide.
I, Melanie Blanchette as well as my assistant Meagan Aubin were absolutely thrilled to be able to learn and play all summer with the youth of our region and surrounding areas. As we are both aspiring elementary teachers, coordinating the summer youth program was a great experience as well as so much fun! We would like to thank all kids as well as parents for having their children join us for such an enjoyable and memorable summer!
The 2016 FCSS summer youth program was a huge success and we look forward to many exciting things to come for the 2017 summer season!
