Plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Smoky River Agricultural Fair may have to wait for another year.

No dates have been set for 2020 fair as the Smoky River Agricultural Society deals with the COVID-19 pandemic risks and restrictions.

“The fair has not been cancelled yet,” president Linda Dionne Marcoux says in an e-mail April 22.

“We are waiting for future Alberta guidelines in regard to distancing and gatherings.”

No gatherings of more than 15 people are allowed under health orders by Alberta Health Services and people are required to be at least six feet apart for social distancing.

“We will need to follow the government guidelines that have been already in place,” Dionne Marcoux says.

Traditionally the fair has been held in August, usually on the long weekend.
