A farewell to winter is the theme of a children’s carnival Feb. 29 in Girouxville.

Say Good-Bye to Jack Frost is the invitation to the Leap Day Indoor Carnival at Smoky Lanes Bowling from noon to 5 p.m.

“It is a fundraiser for our bowling alley and an incentive to bring in kids from all over the Smoky region,” says event co-odinator Rita Houle, a board member of the Girouxville Sports Club, which operates the bowling alley.

Organizers have planned a variety of games and activities for children ages 2-17 years, including a photo booth, coin toss, dice throw, tattoos and a fishing game.

“We will also have special challenges on the bowling lanes,” Houle says.

Children will buy tickets to play the fun games for a chance to win various prizes.

Several prizes will also be given for children and youth with the best outfits or costumes to reflect the theme of frosty, snow, winter and leaping things.

Cake will be served.

“Many organizations and businesses have come together to donate so many wonderful prizes,” Houle says.

Some are also donating funding to support the event.

People are also encouraged to bring a gently-used toy for a toy swap.

Organizers hope to make the event an annual fundraiser. Houle is assisted by employees Dahna Potter and Nancy Roth.

Admission is $10 for children ages 2-3, $15 for ages 4-6 and $20 for ages 7-17.
