As the title of the event would suggest, the Smoky Emergency Response Team’s “Evening of Elegance” fundraiser was a formal occasion held at a stylishly adorned Girouxville Community Centre on Saturday, November 19.

The décor accessories, donated by “Every Now & Then Antique & Giftware in Girouxville, were set up to optimum effect by the firefighters.

Sixty-five people attended the Esquire Hotel catered food and wine event, serving shrimp appetizer, mandarin salad, manicotti and prime rib with a cheesecake desert.

Suzette Fowler, owner of Modern Elegance Wine and Spirits Ltd in Grande Prairie, was the sommelier for the evening, suggesting wines to best compliment each course.

Numerous businesses and individuals in the community donated to the silent auction that took place during the event.

Event organizer Colby Robbins says the Smoky Emergency Response Team functions as the social committee for the Smoky River Fire Department and that the committee’s objective with the food and wine fundraising event is to raise money to furnish the new fire hall.

Robbins also says that due to the evening being such a great success, the committee plans to make the Smoky Emergency Response Team’s “Evening of Elegance” an annual fundraising event.
