The day of June 25 will be important for seven ladies in this region, as they will participate in the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer in Calgary.
“It’s a walk for all cancers,” says Marilyne Simard, one of the walkers.
Her team consists of Cindy Beaudoin, Suzanne Bougie, Leona Jorgenson, Jacquie Melnyk, Lorie Sachs and Denise Simard-Zawacki.
They call themselves the Road to Roses Team.
Marilyne Simard, Beaudoin and Jorgenson are breast cancer survivors.
Sachs was born and raised in Falher. Her mother died of cancer three years ago.
Melnyk is a Registered Nurse and Simard-Zawacki is an LPN. Both have looked after cancer patients, including relatives.
Each team member has to raise $1,500 before they go to Calgary in June.
They are collecting donations in person. You can call Marilyne Simard at (780) 837-6740 for more information.
You can also donate to their team online at www.onewalk.ca.
Click the ‘Donate’ button, enter ‘Road to Roses’ for the team name and you will find them listed and you can enter the donation amount accordingly.
All proceeds will go to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
The OneWalk to Conquer Cancer is also being held in Montreal on Aug. 20, and in Toronto on Sept. 10.
