Parents of small children living in the McLennan area now have a valuable new service in the community at J&E Barkhouse Recreation Activities, which opened Feb. 13.

The recreation activities centre, located in Providence School, is currently open Wednesday and Thursday, but the schedule will be extended from Monday to Friday if the demand exists.

Victoria Patrick came to McLennan from Toronto in 2015, to work as a recreational therapist at Manoir du Lac. Having lived and worked in McLennan for a time, Patrick married Neil Barkhouse and continued to work fulltime at Monoir du Lac until the birth of her twin boys, Jonathan and Ethan, who are now 18 months old.

“In McLennan I’ve experienced so much love,” she says, mentioning numerous individuals, Manoir du Lac and organizations such as the Catholic Women’s League.

She continues to work part-time at Manoir du Lac, but eager to spend as much time as possible with her children. Her rational in opening the centre was to continue working in her profession while also spending time with her two young children.

J&E Barkhouse Recreation is licensed and insured for recreational activities and caters to children ages 1-4 years.

Victoria Patrick Barkhouse will hold an open house at the Ecole Providence location at noon, Sunday, March 1, at which St. John the Baptist parish priest, Father Eucharist, will bless the space.

“People should still be encouraged to pray,” she says.

“We are grateful to God; I prayed for twin boys and God gave us Jonathan and Ethan.”
