In order to foster student and staff safety and well-being and ensure schools are prepared, PRSD has delayed the first day of school to Sept. 8, says a news release on the PRSD website.

The division wants to be sure schools are ready to operate with measures and restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

After consulting with the board of trustees, senior administration, and school administrators, Supt. Paul Bennett determined that a delayed start was necessary.

“PRSD’s highest commitment is the safety and well-being of our students and staff and sincerely appreciates the support of school communities as PRSD prepares to welcome students safely back to school,” Bennett says.

“Delaying the re-entry to school will ensure that staff are provided the time to become familiar with new safety protocols, provide the division more time to plan for at-home learning, ensure the appropriate level of caretaking staff is in place and ensure the necessary cleaning and safety supplies are received and distributed in PRSD schools.”
