Ecole Providence students who have completed Grade 6 now have the option of taking the bus to St. Andrews Catholic School in High Prairie starting the 2016–2017 school year.
“We think it is important that Catholic families in McLennan can ensure their child receives a faith-based education from Kindergarten to grade 12,” says Providence School Principal, Krista Veitch. “And consistent with Holy Family Catholic Regional Division mandate, there are absolutely no fees for students to take the bus to St. Andrews.”
St. Andrew’s Catholic School has approximately 600 students and the 60 members of the staff are committed to promoting Christian values through the educational process. The school offers the full spectrum of subjects; academics, fine arts, technology, CTS and physical education.
“As this opportunity has just been announced we don’t know yet what degree of interest there will be,” says Veitch.
“While the bus ride from McLennan to High Prairie is approximately 35 minutes, this is a direct route with no stops in between and the reality for McLennan parents is that after Grade 6, their kids have to get the bus to school no matter what.”
Principal Veitch also points out that for Catholic families in McLennan, seeing their children continue their education in a faith-based environment is a priority and they consider membership in the Catholic School system as important in establishing enduring religious, social and ethical values.
