The Honey Festival Committee met at the Town of Falher office in the evening of May 12 and continued planning for the June 17-19 event.

Soleille Briand, the recreation coordinator for the Town of Falher, reported that the new festival website is up and running. It is at www.thehoneyfestival.ca.

Although there is little information available now, it will be updated as the event nears.

Committee member Gary Braithwaite reported that several people will be hired for security for two nights.

He was also supposed to have a report about the slow pitch tournament, but there was no information available at press time.

Briand reported that the liquor license for the event has been sent to Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission.

Two people have been hired as the festival coordinators, Kristina Nolette and Amanda Gosselin.

Nolette reported that she is collecting the sponsor forms. There are four levels of sponsorship – platinum, gold, silver and bronze. She is also sending out the form to other potential sponsors.

Council approved the closure of Main Street, from 1st Avenue South to Central Avenue, for the Show N Shine event, during their meeting on May 9.

Activities at the festival

The committee discussed the activities for the festival.

One of the events will be an opening ceremony for the splash park at the Falher Regional Recreation Complex, in the afternoon of June 17. The Falher and Area Beautification and Leisure Activities Society will host the event.

A barbecue will be held in the FRRC parking lot that evening.

The parade will be held that evening, too, running a circular route through Falher.

Also, Chris Lovely will hold an illusion show in the curling rink that night.
