Five young hockey players from the Peace Region were selected to participate in an All Star game, hosted in Fort Saskatchewan on December 15, 2018.
Karter Fournier (Falher), Tyson Tokarz (Guy), Kaiden Walchuk (Peace River), Zackary Shantz and Jace Badger-Shantz (High Prairie) play regionally for the Peace River AA Sabres, a team that is part of the Edmonton and Rural Bantam Hockey League (ERBHL). which is under the auspices of the Northern Alberta Hockey League (NAHL).
The Peace River AA Sabres are having a stellar season, currently ranked first out of the 29 teams in the league, with an 18 win – 1 loss record so far this year.
They also enjoy the distinction of currently having the best record of any Bantam AA team in Alberta.
As the top team in the league, the Peace River AA Sabres were also asked to send there coaching staff.
The staff that made the trip to Fort Saskatchewan include head coach Daryl Bak from Grimshaw, assistant coach Cody Cousins from Peace River, assistant coach Darcy Tokarz and manager Wendy Tokarz who are both from Guy.
The team traveled to Fort Saskatchewan for a Friday night practice followed by a team supper and a pre-game breakfast banquet on Saturday morning, December 15.
This is the first time the Sabres sent this many athletes to an all-star game and staying true to form, the Sabres played a phenomenal game defeating the other all-star team 4 – 1.
A Sabre team member was instrumental in each point earned by their all-star team and the Sabres goalie Jace Badger-Shantz, ranked seventh goalie in the league, earned himself a shut out during his time in the net.
Kaiden Walchuk has a well earned reputation as a formidable defenseman.
Karter Fournier is 1st in the league for points with 44pts, 32 goals and 12 assists.
Tyson Tokarz is 2nd in the league for points with 31pts, 11 goals and 20 assists.
Zackary Shantz is 5th in the league for points with 27pts, 14 goals and 13 assists.
