Falher Pirates trounce High Prairie Regals in local action

The Falher Pirates and the High Prairie Regals played against each other for the third time in December, and the local team trounced their rivals 12-3 on December 20.

Coach Shawn Gervais was pleased with the victory.

“We’re building towards playing better hockey,” says Gervais. “When everyone is on the same page, then things happen. As each game comes, we try to build and get better.”

The Pirates hosted the Regals hosted the Regals for their third encounter.

However, it looked like the Regals would get the upper hand early on. Mitch Price scored a shorthanded goal at 3:38 of the first period, and less than 15 seconds later, Ira Gladue scored the team’s second shorthanded goal.

Nonetheless, the Pirates bounced back with five goals in succession, with three of them in less than a minute. Darren Kramer, Jeff Chalifoux, Darren Brochu, Coltin Sandboe and Captain Pat Rowan all scored before the end of the first period.

But the Regals had the last word, as Brandan McNabb scored the team’s third and final goal at 18:43.

The second and third periods belonged to the Pirates. At 13:12 of the second, during four-on-four play, Rowan scored his second goal, and just 20 seconds later, Dallas Brochu added another to the team’s tally. Kramer added two more goals near the end of the second, including one on the power play.

Kevin Monfette added another power play goal at the 15-minute mark of the third period, then Darren Brochu scored his second of the game at 16:05.

Rowan scored his third of the game with less than a minute remaining.

The game ended 12-3 in favour of the Pirates. Shots on goal for the game were 58-27 in favour of the Pirates.

The Pirates travelled to Grimshaw on December 22 and they won the game against the Huskies by a score of 7-2. The Pirates’ next game will be on January 3, 2019, when they host the Manning Comets.

Then they travel to Grimshaw on January 4, to play against the Huskies.
