Pirates lose home opener to the Dawson Creek Canucks

The Falher Pirates are off to a rough start for the 2016/17 season, as they lost 7-1 during their home opener against the Dawson Creek Canucks on Oct. 29.

Chris Stevens opened the scoring for the Canucks at 13:18 in the first period, with a power play goal.

The Canucks scored four more goals in the second period. Riley Muise and Chris Stevens scored regular goals, while Colton Gies and Mike Lalonde scored on the power play.

Mats Maisonneuve put the Pirates on the board at 6:04 in the third period, with a short-hand goal.

But the Canucks finished the game with two more goals, including one by Spencer Grover and another power play goal by Mike Lalonde.

Shots on goal for the game were 40-28 in favour of the Canucks.

The Canucks were four for six on the power play, while the Pirates were zero for 10.

The next home game for the Pirates will be on Nov. 10, when they host the Valleyview Jets.
