Pirates 2-1 for the season start

The Falher Pirates were off to a strong start on Nov. 4, hosting the High Prairie Regals in their home opener, and winning 10-3.

“It was a good first game,” says Coach Taylor Cote. “We shook the rust off. The guys skated hard and it’s always good to play at home and win the first game for the fans.”

During the first period, Colton Caron and Cedric Harvey scored for the Pirates.

In the second period, Jeff Chalifoux, Dakota Mason and Devon Quartly each scored, while Cedric Harvey scored second goal of the game on the power play.

Jacob Anderson scored for the Regals.

In the third period, Chalifoux scored two more goals of the game, including one on the power play. Mason also scored his second of the game, and Dallas Brochu scored on the power play.

Jason Anderson scored his second goal for the Regals, and Austin Doan scored as well.

The final score was 10-3 in favour of the Pirates. Shots on goal for the game were 30-26 in favour of the Pirates.

Game two in High Prairie

The Pirates travelled to High Prairie on Nov. 7 for game two, which proved to be much closer for the Falher team.

Pat Rowan and Colton Caron scored for the Pirates in the first period.

Kole Shaw scored a power play goal for the Regals in the first period as well.

The Pirates were ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period.

The Pirates scored four more goals in the second period. Dallas Brochu, Jeff Chalifoux, Tyler Stevenson and Hugo Dissegna each scored one goal.

But the Regals came back to score three goals. Nelson Anderson, Ira Gladue and Jacob Anderson each scored one goal.

The Pirates maintained a lead of 6-4 at the end of the second period.

However, the Regals managed to even the game in the third period. Damian Cardinal scored a shorthanded goal and Jacob Anderson scored the sixth and tying goal near the end of the third period.

The game went into overtime, which resulted in no goal being scored, so a shootout followed.

The Pirates won the shootout 2-1, and won the game by a score of 7-6. Shots on goal for the game were 36-28 in favour of the Regals.

Loss to Flyers

The Pirates hosted the Fort St. John Flyers on Nov. 9 and they were handed an 10-7 loss, their first of the season.

“We started really strong and had a lot of offensive talent,” says Coach Taylor Cote.

“But as the game went on, we struggled defensively.”

Colton Caron and Jeff Chalifoux scored for the Pirates in the first period.

Scoring for the Flyers in the second period were Adam Horst, Jeff Shipton (two goals), Cole Calliou and Rick Cleaver.

Dakota Mason scored three goals for the Pirates in the second period, while Trevor Mazurek scored one.

In the third period, Rick Cleaver scored three more goals for the Flyers, while Joey Massingham and Cole Calliou score one each.

Pat Rowan score the Pirates’ seventh and last goal of the game early in the third period.

The final score was 10-7 in favour of the Flyers.

The Pirates travel to Fort St. John on Nov. 16.
