The Smoky River Palliative Care Society is launching “Light Up a Memory” fundraiser for 2016.

The campaign runs Nov. 15, 2016 to Jan. 1, 2017. It is a fundraiser that offers a way for the public to remember their loved ones.

An occasion that offers a memorable start to the Christmas season and also offers great comfort to so many people. The campaign focuses on raising funds and awareness to support the purchase of necessary equipment, resources materials, supplies, furniture for the terminally ill patients, to make their last days as comfortable as possible. It is also a support to the families who wish to stay with their loved ones, and have access to the palliative care rooms in acute care.

A Christmas tree is placed in the lobby of the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in McLennan. The holiday cards representing the memory of a loved one who has passed away are then placed on the tree. With the launch of the “Light Up a Memory” fundraiser, several donation boxes have been placed in the hospital and throughout the community. Addressed envelopes are supplied at back of each box. Anyone wishing to remember their loved ones can complete the information required and enclose the donation and place in the box or send by mail. Each donation of $10 per loved one goes towards a Christmas card placed on the tree.
