A province-wide search is on for Alberta’s outstanding volunteers, and people can help by nominating their own local hero for a Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award.
These awards recognize the exemplary service of volunteers whose contributions have made a lasting impact on their communities and the lives of their fellow Albertans.
“Alberta volunteers are the constant, shining stars in our province,” says Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda.
Whether it’s helping those impacted by a sudden disaster like a wildfire, or supporting programs that make their communities stronger and the lives of their neighbours better, let’s recognize extraordinary Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community.”
Most importantly, it is a chance to pay tribute to Alberta’s outstanding volunteers, the minister says.
Six awards will be presented – two in each category of youth, adult and senior – at the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards ceremony to be held as part of celebrations marking International Volunteer Day on Dec. 5.
Albertans are encouraged to submit nominations by Sept. 20 online or download the nomination form at culturetourism.alberta.ca/stars.
Since the program began in 2000, 103 Alberta volunteers from across the province have been recognized.
The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards Program is part of the Government of Alberta’s efforts to help set a standard for service, encourage a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspire others to make volunteering a central part of their lives.
