Construction of the new regional fire in Falher continues, with Kevin Cymbaluk, the director of operations for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 giving an update to council on Sept. 19. On site, a power line was snagged and a gas line was damaged, but both have been repaired. Council approved Cymbaluk’s request for a motion to spend up to $6,000 for furniture. Council also approved the purchase of a 100 kilowatt emergency generator from Vic’s Car Care in Falher, for approximately $36,000.

Additionally, council approved Cymbaluk’s request to convert 50,000 tons of 1-½ inch gravel into 3/4-inch gravel, due to more inventory of the former than expected. In other news, the M.D. has delayed several construction projects due to the wet weather, including road construction, culverts and ditching projects. But a waste water line replacement has been completed in Jean Cote. A property owner and the M.D. paid their shares of the cost.

The reservoir water intake at the Smoky River Regional Ski Hill is clean, and a backup generator test was conducted to ensure the emergency procedures are in place.
