During their meeting on Aug. 15, the council for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 approved signing a memorandum of understanding with Big Lakes County to establish broadband service within the region.
The MOU says, in part:
“This Memorandum of Understanding is to ensure that all partners agree they wish to participate in the planning, construction and operation of an open regional broadband network. Partners agree to make effort to achieve the overall goal of providing the infrastructure necessary for broadband access to every citizen within their communities.”
Tender for bridge work awarded
Council has approved the tender of Cox Contracting Ltd. in High Prairie, to build an erosion control structure and earthworks on the Bechard Drainage, located southwest of Jean Cote.
The work will cost $265,323.
Land purchase and crop damage compensation
Council approved an increase to $3,238 per acre for land purchase and to $607 per acre of crop damage, for flood damage.
2018 Tax Sale
Council approved a tax sale for 2 p.m. on Nov. 16, which will be advertised in the Smoky River Express.
Subdivision applications
Council approved a farmstead separation for SE 1-78-24-W5M, located near the Little Smoky River.
Council also approved a subdivision application for country/residential use for NE 21-75-23-W5M, located southwest of Guy.
