M.D.130 Council Notebook – council approves municipal water/waste water partnership

During their meeting on Nov. 8, council for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 approved a motion to apply for a grant under the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership.
The M.D. would pay 50 per cent of the cost, amount to $312,000, for work on lift stations for Guy and Jean Cote.
Purchase of different generator for new fire hall approved
Council approved the purchase of a different generator for the new regional fire hall being built in Falher.
Council rescinded the purchase of a generator from Vic’s Car Care in Falher because it was too small.
In its place, the M.D. will purchase a bigger unit from NOV Varco of Valleyview in the amount of $46,900.
Land use bylaw amendments
Council gave first reading to Bylaw 16-887, an amendment to Land Use Bylaw No. 865.
The words “mobile home” will be replaced with “manufactured home” and “modular building.”
Council also gave first reading to Bylaw 16-668, another amendment to Land Use Bylaw No. 865.
This will remove the forms from the bylaw, in order to facilitate changes from time to time.
Both amendments will be advertised in the Smoky River Express and a public hearing held for each one at a later date.
Property tax payments by instalment
Council approved Bylaw No. 16-889, allowing for the payment of property taxes by monthly instalments. All three readings were given to this bylaw.
M.D. to maintain its PLS funding commitment
The Peace Library System will decrease its funding commitment to the Falher and McLennan libraries in 2017, due to the decrease in the M.D. population. However, council has agreed to maintain its funding commitment of $1,509.60 for 2017.
ATCO Electric equipment installation approved
Council approved ATCO Electric’s request to install equipment on a land located at SW 25-75-22-W5M, which is located northeast of Girouxville.
