During their meeting on November 14, the council for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 gave third and final reading to Bylaw 18-906, which restricts genetically engineered alfalfa in the region.
Council also approved an administrative policy related to the bylaw.
Letter of support
Council approved a motion to provide a letter of support to the Town of Falher and Smoky River Regional Economic Development for their Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) grant. This will be for their business case for a hemp fibre project.
Smoky River Regional Physician House Agreement
Council approved a motion to enter into a declaration of trust with the Town of McLennan related to the Smoky River Regional Physician House Agreement.
COMPASS Assessment Consultants Inc.
Council approved a motion to renew the M.D.’s agreement with COMPASS Assessment Consultants Inc. for another four years.
Recreation Grant Applications
Council approved funding for three recreation projects.
The first is for the Girouxville Enhancement Committee, funding in the amount of $27,500 for the Girouxville Skating Rink. The second is for the McLennan Location Recreation Board, funding in the amount of $12,525 for their tennis court revitalization.
The third is for the McLennan Leisure & Recreation Society, funding in the amount of $16,170 for their walking trails project.
All three projects meet the M.D.’s application requirements, pending approval under the M.D.’s 2019 budget.
Cemetery Grant Applications and related policy
Council approved Policy 312 for the M.D.’s cemeteries grant funding program.
Those that are pre-approved for funding are the Paroisse Ste. Anne Parish, Guy Cemetery, Paroisse Sacre-Cœur Cemetery of Donnelly, Culp Cemetery, St. John the Baptiste Cathedral Parish, Paroisse Notre Dame des Loudes, Donnelly Heights Cemetery, Jean Cote Cemetery and Whitemud Creek Cemetery. Council also approved a $500 grant for each one.
