Marcel Maure has returned to his roots and taken up the position of fire chief for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130.
Maure, who hails from Girouxville, started his new role with the M.D. on Nov. 30. He is pleased to be back in the region.
“I was excited at the chance to provide the community I grew up in, with support and protection,” says Maure.
He served in the military for over 18 years, including five years and in army and 13 1/2 years with the air force. He started in the infantry and switched trades to become a firefighter.
He worked at all levels, from truck driver to rescue, platoon chief, chief fire inspector as a deputy fire chief.
“The challenge of becoming a firefighter was great and serving in that role was reward,” adds Maure.
He had an interest in the role of firefighter as a youth, serving with the Girouxville fire department at 15.
After retiring from the military, he worked for several years with K-9 units in explosives, narcotics and protection.
Maure will focus on recruitment and training once he’s up to speed in his new role.
