The Town of McLennan held its Volunteer Appreciation Night last January at which time the Town usually presents the Volunteer of the Year Award to an individual or group that has made a considerable contribution to the community through volunteering.
As the recipients of the 2018 Award, Gilbert and Theresa Demeule, were in Mexico during the winter, the presentation was postponed until the last regular meeting of McLennan Town Council on June 10.
Gilbert and Therese Demeule were recognized for their numerous collective and individual contributions to the community, which includes working with the Northern Alberta Railway Museum Society, and Providence Breakfast Program among many other endeavors.
Both Therese and Gilbert are members of the Northern Alberta Historical and Railway Museum Society and along with Nancy McNeil, produced an historical CD on the development of the Town of McLennan.
Money raised from the Historical CD sales goes towards moving the NAR Station building in Falher to the Northern Alberta Railway Museum.
The Demeule’s also volunteer as Mr. and Mrs Claus on the annual Santa Day celebrations. Theresa is also a member of the Royal Purple Elks and a member of the Catholic Womens League. She also helps with the Ecole Providence Mentorship Program. Julien and Maggie Gervais nominated Gilbert and Theresa Demuele for the 2018, Volunteer of the Year Award.
