The weather was fairly mild for McLennan Santa Day on December 9, resulting in an excellent turnout for the Royal Purple Elks sponsored event.
While the hayrides didn’t go ahead, there were still no shortage of things for kids to enjoy at the four-hour event, that began at 11am and ended a little after its scheduled 3pm closing.
Along with serving a hot lunch, the event offered movies, face painting, a games, crafts and colouring corner and as the hayride was cancelled the organizers brought in a bouncy castle for the smaller kids.
Of course, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus was the highlight of the afternoon and once the guests of honor arrived to great fanfare, a steady stream of kids queued up to chat and have their photographs taken with the couple and receive a gift bag.
Santa and Mrs. Claus handed out over 100 gift bags and after they left, sixteen door prizes were presented to the lucky boys and girls whose names were drawn.
It was an excellent Santa Day in every respect for the kids and the adults who attended also enjoyed the festivities.
“We really appreciate all our sponsors and our volunteers because without them we couldn’t do it,” says organiser and Royal Purple Elks member Maggie Gervais.
