Appointment of Mayor Bylaw
A motion of Council to appoint the Mayor from within at the next general election was defeated.

Banning of plastic bags
Council received a letter from the Smoky River Waste Commission requesting a ban on plastic grocery bags in the Town of McLennan. Council discussed the matter and agreed to support the ban if the entire Smoky River region participates also. In McLennan, the ban would apply to the grocery, hardware, and confectionery stores, the liquor store, restaurant and the second hand store.

By-Election
Following the recent resignation of Councillor Leo Giroux, Council set a by-election date for September 26, 2019. Nomination forms for the position will be accepted until 12 noon, August 15, 2019.

Deputy Mayor
Councillor Marie Anne Jones has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor.

Smoky River Economic Development – 3 Year Agreement
Council tabled making a decision on the request for a 3-year agreement for the Smoky River Economic Development, coordinator position.

Winagami Lake Provincial Park – Wading Pool Closure
A letter concerning the closure of the wading pool at Winagami Lake Provincial Park has been sent by the Town of McLennan to Jason Nixon, Minister of Alberta Environment and Parks.

Honorariums for Public Engagement Events
Council voted down paying honorarium claims to Council members for attending and speaking at public events.

Intermunicipal Development Plan
The Public Hearing on the Intermunicipal Development Plan is scheduled for September 9, 2019 at 7:05pm in the Council Chamber.

McLennan Municipal Kimiwan Campground
Cancellations of group bookings at Kimiwan Camp Ground campground will now require a minimum of one weeks’ notice and only half the deposit is refundable.
