Spring Clean Up
Council approved holding the annual Spring Clean Up from Saturday, May 7 to Monday, May 16th. For each load, residents are required to sign in and provide their street address. The site will be open from noon to 8 p.m. with designated areas for particular items. As in former years, construction or renovation materials, decking,, fencing,, drywall and chain link fencing are not accepted. There is a $10 fee for appliances and a $25 fee for appliances with Freon.
Public Works Week
On a motion from Councillor Dwayne Stout, May 15 to 21, 2016, is proclaimed Public Works Week.
Smoky River Community Program
Council approved sending a letter of support to our MLA on behalf of the Smoky River Community Transportation Program’s request for additional funding.
Farm Safety Centre
A request from Farm Safety Centre for a financial contribution has been denied.
Big Lakes County Invitation Charity Golf Tournament
Council approved providing a gift basket for the Third Annual Big Lakes County Invitation Charity Golf Tournament in August.
Town of Fox Creek on their Business License Bylaw
The request from the Town of Fox Creek for a letter of support on their Business License Bylaw 736-2014, which enables the Town of Fox Creek to collect from various hotels and motels a percentage of their room fees, was accepted as information.
Smoky River Airport
Town Council approved the 2016 Smoky River Airport budget as presented and motioned to approve providing the requested amount of $16,026.36
Electricity and Gas Contract
Approval was given to renew the electricity and gas contract with 8760 Energy for another three-year term.
Lakeland Eagles
A request from George Gladue of the Lakeland Eagles to use the H.W. Fish Arena as a home base for the team has been approved contingent on payment in full of the outstanding ice fees prior to having ice allotment this fall.
Smoky River Golf Society
Council reviewed the financial statements for the Smoky River Golf Society and approved providing the society with a $5,000 start-up loan. As per terms of the loan approved last year, the Golf Society must pay back the $5,000 by December 31st, 2016.
