The McLennan Recreation Board’s “McLennan Community Badminton Club” held its first meeting at Ecole Providence gym on Wednesday November 1.

The club meets for two hours, with the first for an hour of drills, conditioning and skill development and games are played for the second hour.

The Badminton Club is free but participants should bring their own gear if possible, as there is limited equipment available.

Anyone over 12 years of age is welcome to join the club but must sign a waiver prior to participating.

Club organizer and coach, Melodie Schaeser, has worked with local coach Dave Morin quiet a lot and says she has learn a lot about coaching from him.

Schaeser, who has been a badminton coach at G. P. Vanier for three years says players at all levels are welcome to join the club, including those who have never played badminton before but would like to learn.

In spite of cold weather and snow, attendance at the inaugural practice was excellent with approximately a dozen players participating.

The Bandminton Club meets every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm until February 28, 2018.
