2018 Budget & Property Tax Rates
During the meeting on May 15th, 2018 council approved a two mill rate decrease in property taxes for 2018.
The residential and non-residential rate payers will see the same mill rate decrease. Council approved a municipal mill rate of 8.7096 for residential and 12.85356 for non-residential properties.
Council also approved the municipality’s 2018 operating budget of $768,308. There will be capital projects, such as street improvements on West side of 3rd Street on Gravel Ave, 4th Street, Cote Ave and 6th Street, which will be funded by MSI Capital.
Combined Property assessment and tax notices will be mailed on Thursday May 31st, 2018, and they must be paid in full by July 31st, 2018.

ATCO Electric Franchise Agreement
Council will renegotiate the ATCO Electric Franchise agreement to remain non-invested street lights. With the non-invested street council will continue the lower rate monthly for distribution and transmission costs; however, will have to maintain the fixtures at their cost. Council is confident that with continued financial forward planning, this will be achieved.

AUMA Letter to Prime Minister in support of Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project
Council ratified the decision to send their support to AUMA on their letter to the Prime Minister. Council is in support of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project.
AUMA sent the letter to the Prime Minister on May 16th, 2018 with 167 Mayors and Communities who voiced their support for the project directly.

FCM Climate Change Staff Grant
Council is in support of submitting a grant application to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for a Climate Change Staff Grant with the Village’s contribution funding being capped to include all 5 municipalities in our region.

Weed Inspectors and Appeal Committee
Council has appointed Normand Boulet, Raymond Rey, David Skinner and Svitlana Ksendzuk as Weed Inspectors for 2018. They also appointed Fern Doucet, Denis Pele, Andre Lussier, Darcy Tokarz & Lucien Houle as our Appeal Committee.

Asset Management Workshop for Elected Officials and CAO
Council has authorized the CAO and Mayor to attend the Asset Management Workshop in Grande Prairie to be held on June 15th, 2018. The Asset Management is a directive of the Provincial Government in the new Municipal Government Act. The Village along with the 4 other municipalities within the M.D. of Smoky River are undertaking a joint Asset Management Project.

Seniors Week June 3-9
Council has proclaimed June 3-9th as Seniors Week, in support of Honourable Lori Sigurdson Minister of Seniors and Housing.

Council received as information, two complaints, one on snow bank and one on dog barking.

Council has set June 12th, 2018 as a special meeting to review bylaws. Next regular meeting will be June 18th, 2018.
