The Smoky River Manatees Swim Club ended the 2018 season on a high note, with several medal wins at provincials.
The Manatees had 50 members this season, including many new swimmers, so the coaches had a lot of work to do with them.
“This year was a building year for the Smoky River Manatees Swim Club, with receiving so many new swimmers,” says Coach Jessie Sylvain.
They focused on the two youngest groups, especially on their strokes, and by the end of the season many of the swimmers showed great improvement, Sylvain adds.
“I’m very proud of all of them. Each swimmer really pushed themselves and made a lot of progress. All the coaches are really proud of the swimmers.”
The other coaches consisted of Charlize Bremont, Cole Bremont, Blake Lambert and Nadia Sylvain.
Eleven swimmers went to provincials in Grande Prairie during August 11-12, and Jessie Sylvain brought home two gold, one silver and one bronze, while Eli Dubrule brought home a bronze.
Sylvain also went to provincials, which were held in Edmonton during August 18-19. Three alternates also went with her, but they didn’t get the opportunity to compete.
This was Sylvain’s second season coaching the Manatees and she’s looking forward to that role again next year.
