M.D. council approves mowing equipment purchase

During their meeting on Feb. 14, the council for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 approved Martin Deerline’s bid for all of the M.D.’s mower and sidearms for the amount of $92,916.80.

Council also approved a motion to purchase a trash compactor from the Whitecourt Regional Waste Authority for the amount of $100,000. Spare parts and training are included in the deal.

Council also approved a motion to issue a tender for a pickup for use by the local agricultural services board.

Subdivision application approved
Council approved a subdivision application for Germain and Louise Bastien, for a farmstead separation on their property located at NW 21-74-21-W5M, which is southwest of Guy.

Payments to organizations
Council approved the payment of $1,025.50 to the Farm Safety Centre.
Council also approved the payment of $24,500 to Veterinary Services Inc.
Council also approved the appointment of Sylvain and Company as the M.D.’s auditor for 2018. Council also approved $5,000 to the Smoky River Regional Golf Course’s community membership program. This program is open to M.D. residents, employees and volunteer firefighters.

Power pole replacements and relocations
Council approved several motions for the replacement or relocation of power poles throughout the M.D.

Fire guardians
Council approved Fire Chief Marcel Maure, Kevin Rey and Dave Gervais as the fire guardians for 2018.
Council also approved the changes to the Smoky River Regional Emergency Response Plan.
The representatives for the Smoky River Regional EM Partnership met at the Smoky River Fire and Rescue building in Falher during the evening of Feb. 6 to discuss changes to be made. Each municipal government that is part of the Smoky River Regional EM Partnership must approve the changes.

Road renaming
Council passed a motion to rename the Alder Ridge Road to the Old High Prairie Road.
