During their meeting on Sept. 12, the council for the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 approved the purchase of a new fire truck in the amount of $667,082.50.
E-One Emergency Vehicles and Rescue Trucks in Burnaby, B.C. has won the contract and it will be built at their manufacturing facility in Ocala, Florida.
Council tabled Bylaw No. 18-904, establishing fire services.
Tax cancellation
Council approved a cancellation for Tax Roll #420014013 in the amount of $6,681.04.
This is due to the Alberta Government cancelling a surface material lease on that land.
Flood and Drainage
Council held a discussion about policies and bylaws for review related to flood and drainage.
They will discuss this further during a committee of the whole meeting in November.
Application approval
Council approved an application for Invest Canada – Community Initiatives Program, to support Smoky River Regional Economic Development.
Power line extension
Council approved a power line extension for NE 28-74-23-W5N, located in the Whitemud area.
ATCO Electric submitted the application for the power line extension, which will be used for a cattle feed operation.
Rail Safety Week
Council passed a proclamation for Rail Safety Week, a national event taking place during the week of Sept. 23-29.
Operation Lifesaver spearheads Rail Safety Week to stop rail track tragedies. As per their website at www.operationlifesaver.ca, this organization is a partnership initiative of the Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada.
It works in cooperation with the rail industry, government, police, unions, and many public organizations and community groups.
