Lots of minor hockey action during Jan. 20-21

The Smoky River Minor Hockey Association had a very busy weekend during Jan. 20-21, with the peewees, atoms and midgets in action.

The Smoky River Viterra Peewee Pirates faced the Ridgevalley Rustlers at the Falher Regional Recreation Complex that afternoon. The teams were evenly matched until the third period, when the Rustlers managed three goals in succession and won the game by a score of 6-3.

The SRMHA Midgets faced the Sexsmith Vipers thereafter. The teams were evenly matched through the first period.

But play was halted at 19:23, when Jack Muggaberg went down on the ice with a facial injury. Nathan Fischer of the local team received a five-minute penalty for boarding Muggaberg.

But the local team went on to win the game by a score of 3-1.

The Vision Credit Union Smoky River Atoms played against the High Prairie Atom B team at the H.W. Fish Arena in McLennan on Jan. 21. The Vision Credit Union Smoky River Atoms won the game by a score of 5-3.

The was 4-3 in favour of the local team at the beginning of the third period, and they managed to fend off the High Prairie team’s attempts to tie it. Then, with less than a minute remaining, the local team scored their fifth and final go to win.
Crash! The Smoky River Minor Hockey Association’s midgets team played against the Sexsmith Vipers at the Falher Regional Recreation Complex in the afternoon of Jan. 20. It was a tough battle for both teams, but the local team managed to win 3-1, including a shorthanded goal at end of the third period.
