Girouxville, Alberta – Local crop supply retailer, Merlot Ag is working with western Canadian seed company, Canterra Seeds, to support the local Girouxville Skating Rink Project, the two companies announced today (Nov. 7).

The two companies announced a new program that will donate $5/bag to the rink’s fundraising efforts, for every bag of Canterra Seeds canola booked at Merlot Ag by Dec. 31, 2016.

The Girouxville Enhancement Committee, which includes residents of Girouxville and surrounding areas, has plans to refurbish the local skating rink into a year round community sports and recreation facility that everyone in the community can enjoy.

They are currently in the process of organizing fundraising, and plans to add a full slab of cement, new lighting and sport courts are underway.

As a member of the local community, Merlot Ag is very happy to support the skating rink project. “I’ve seen for myself how a community can build itself around a rink, and I think this is very important project for the area,” said Marc Tardif of Merlot Ag.

Canterra Seeds is a western Canadian seed company that is primarily owned by farmers and crop supply retailers. Jesse Meyer, Territory Manager for the Peace River region said:

“Canterra Seeds is proud of our rural roots, and likes to give back to communities where it can make a difference. I’m excited to work with Merlot Ag on this program, and to help support the village of Girouxville in their fundraising efforts.”

To help contribute to the program, farmers can purchase Canterra Seeds canola at Merlot Ag prior to the end of the year. All bags sold will earn a $5/bag donation towards the rink project.

As a western Canadian seed company, Canterra Seeds is committed to sourcing genetically superior seed products that deliver agronomic and economic benefits for producers, while meeting end-user needs. With a versatile portfolio of cereals, pulses and oilseeds, Canterra Seeds seeks opportunities that allow for mutual success in the agriculture industry.
