LETTER – The War Amps advocate encourages summer safety lessons for children

Dear Editor:
As a Graduate of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program and a Safety Ambassador for the PLAYSAFE Program, I have met kids who have lost limbs in accidents that could have been prevented.

With the weather warming up, it’s a good time to teach kids about the dangers that can come with summer, such as lawn mowers, boat motors and playing around water areas.

Over the past few years, I have given War Amps PLAYSAFE presentations as I believe it is crucial to pass on the safety message and prevent as many accidents as possible.

I would encourage parents to take their children on a “safety walk” and point out the dangers in their area.
It only takes a split second for an accident to happen, so let’s all PLAYSAFE!
