It’s not every day you get to attend a premiere curling event. But local junior curlers Luc Blanchette and Anna Desharnais were front and centre at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, held at Revolution Place in Grande Prairie during Feb. 20-28.

“It was a pretty good experience,” says Blanchette.

“There was a lot of energy.”

He represented Team Saskatchewan at the national curling championship. They participated on Feb. 22.

Desharnais represented Team Newfoundland and Labrador on Feb. 23. She, too, was impressed with this national event.

“It was a really great experience,” says Desharnais. “Walking out I was pretty nervous. It was weird to be in front of that many people.”

Both junior curlers had the opportunity to tour the TSN media facilities while there and Blanchette got to meet analyst Russ Howard.

Both junior curlers would like to attend this national event again, if given the opportunity.

Desharnais has a dream of leading home own team to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Blanchette has been a curler for five years. This is Desharnais’ eighth year in the sport.
