On the weekend of July 6 to 8th, jet boat racers and enthusiasts converged on the town of Peace River for the Peace River Gold Cup Jet Boat Championship.

The preliminary events at the River Park launch, such as the show and shine, registration and boat inspection had excellent weather but on Saturday the rain put a slight damper on things, especially for the fans lined along the banks of the river.

The main events got underway on Saturday at 10am and despite the rain the jet boat racers didn’t lose any momentum because of the weather.

Of course, jet boat racing is an exhilarating sport in which to participate but it is also a thrilling spectator sport and as Sunday’s weather was favourable enough, ultimately everyone enjoyed the event.

On Sunday at 10am, the Watino long race started in Peace River at and at 2pm from Watino to Peace River.

The Peace River Gold Cup Championship saw approximately 22 jet boat racers place in the competition.

Jet Boat racers travel from across North America to participate in this event.

Along with enjoying the competition, spectators and participants could also enjoy a cold one at the beer garden, opened from 4 to 8pm.

The event concluded in grand style on Sunday with the awards presentation and banquet at the Chateau Nova Hotel.
