After an extensive search, the Girouxville Co-op has a new general manager.

Jamie Bean, originally from Quebec, took up his new position on April 23.

Bean started out working for telecommunication companies in Quebec and Ontario, then in Edmonton before changing his career direction and entering the agriculture field.

His postings included Viterra in High Prairie in 2008, taking courses through the company and then working for crop inputs. His other postings included UFA in Grande Prairie and AGI Ag Growth International in the Peace Country.

His new role as the general manager for the Girouxville Co-op allows him to deal with farmers and he want to see the business grow.

“It’s about giving back to the community and everything we do is local,” says Bean. “And the people have a general say in what we do. I’m working for them.”

The co-op structure allows for local business and support, and to create prosperity for local people, he adds.

Bean and his wife enjoy living in northern Alberta and they plan to stay for a long time. Their two sons are grown and living elsewhere.

Bean introduced himself to the Girouxville Co-op member during their annual general meeting at the Girouxville Community Centre on April 25.
