Strap the saddle on, adjust your stirrups and bridle, then prepare to participate in barrel racing, pole bending, stakes, flag picking and keyhole.
The Jack-Pot Gymkhana event is being held at the Smoky River Ag Society grounds by Donnelly during the weekend of June 11-12. Riders from all over Alberta and B.C. are expected to participate.
“It’s been held in Donnelly for many years,” says organizer Jean-Marc Roussin. “We like to host this event for the Smoky River Ag Society, to ensure it continues for many years to come. This is a family event and the public is certainly welcome to attend.”
Registration begins at 9 a.m. both days. The event will start at noon on June 11 and at 11 a.m. on June 12. The registration fee is $25 each day and Western wear is required to participate.
Horse blankets will go to the overall high point score in each class. The Jack-Pot Gymkhana is valued at over $2,500.
There’s no gate fee and free camping is provided on site.
