Fifteen students from Ecole Providence Grades 1, 2 and 3 received their first sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Communion at St. John the Baptist Church in McLennan on May 31.
Six students were baptized into the Catholic Church, six participated in Reconciliation, and three received their First Communion.
“This is a real milestone for the students,” says Providence principal Krista Veitch. “The kids attended classes to prepare for this and in terms of the Catholic faith and education it is a great day for us all to welcome some of kids into the church and to see others receive for the first time the sacraments of reconciliation and communion.
Following the church service a reception was held at Ecole Providence for students, parents, family members and friends with a number of parishioners also attending.
At the reception, chilly, soup and sandwiches were served along with a large, ceremonial cake to mark the occasion.
