HPSD appoints inclusive education co-ordinators

High Prairie School Division has appointed Michelle Berggren and Brennan McDonald to two positions of inclusive education co-ordinators.

They will work as a team to provide leadership in planning, developing, and implementing inclusive education services across the district.

Berggren has been the CAP facilitator in the division for the past three years. She has a Master of Arts from Athabasca University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta.

Prior to becoming the Career Apprenticeship Program facilitator, Berggren was an inclusive education coach for the division and has more than 10 years of experience in education.

McDonald has been the principal at Prairie River Junior High School for the past two years and has experience as the vice-principal of PRJHS for one year and High Prairie Elementary School for two years.

He has his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Business Administration Diploma from Red Deer College.

McDonald has been with HPSD since 2004.

Together, they will succeed Karen Carleton, who retires after more than 35 years of service with the division.

She previously taught at C.J. Schurter Elementary School in Slave Lake. During her career, she has often had combined responsibilities, which include being the program unit funding co-ordinator and kindergarten teacher.
