High Prairie RCMP charge two with multiple offences

High Prairie, Alberta – On Aug. 14, 2016, at approximately 02:30 a.m. High Prairie RCMP responded to an emergency call at a residence located in the Metis Settlement of Gift Lake where several assaults were reported. When officers arrived they found three victims who were suffering from various injuries. EMS attended and all three were transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Two suspects were immediately sought for the assaults as well as firearm and vehicle related offences from an earlier reported incident involving an additional two victims.

With the assistance of Slave Lake RCMP and High Level RCMP police dog services, a search warrant was executed the same day at a hotel room in Slave Lake which resulted in the arrest of the two suspects. A sixth assault victim was located in the room. This victim was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Keith Carifelle, a 29-year-old from Cadotte Lake is charged with the following offences:

Aggravated Assault (x3)

Fail to Comply with a Recognizance (x3)

Assault

Assault with a weapon

Break and Enter with Intent – Residence

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Possession of a weapon contrary to an order

Uttering Threats

Mischief under $5000.00

Dwayne Cardinal, a 20-year-old from Peace River is charged with the following offences:

Aggravated Assault (x3)

Assault with weapon

Break and Enter with Intent – Residence

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Uttering Threats

Mischief under $5000.00

Both men remain in custody and will appear in High Prairie Provincial Court on Aug. 22, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.

This matter is now before the courts and further information related to the investigation will not be provided. The public is thanked for assistance in this investigation.
