HFCRD explores inter-school bussing

The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) is exploring the financial viability to provide an inter-school bus service for Good Shepherd School families for the 2020-21 school year, says a news release July 30.

The initiative was requested by parents and guardians following the recent announcement from the Peace River School Division (PRSD), says an HFCRD news release July 30.

PRSD states it will suspend all inter-school bussing for the 2020-21 school year as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues.

“The financial viability will depend on the number of families who utilize the service,” Supt. Betty Turpin says.

“We are striving to ensure that this service remains available and affordable for families and all fees collected will be used only to cover the costs of operation.”

Anyone interested who has not been contacted by HFCRD is requites to phone the HFCRD central office at (780) at 780-624-3956 extension 1108 to express their interest. Last week, HFCRD contacted all families who currently utilize the inter-school bussing to survey their interest and their commitment to paying a fee.

If financially viable, this bussing service would transport students from the Sugar Plum Daycare and Glenmary School to Good Shepherd School before school and after school for a minimal fee.

Specific fee amounts are currently being determined and the amount will decrease with more students riding the bus.

The bussing service will follow all COVID-19 guidelines and be thoroughly cleaned between each use.
